After months of hardwork and many many obstacles, I present to you my final project. (Visit the youtube link below)
The Running Chronicles (Genius Project)
It feels amazing to be done this project. Even thought it had to be one of the hardest projects I have ever done it was also the one most worth it. Thanks you for reading about my journey. I would love any opinion or just random comments about my project. Special thanks to Ms Lees for introducing us to the Genius Project and Yassi for everything she did for this project.
And here my script for the Movie:
(every space is when the movie resumes)
After intro: Or can I make someone fast?
Hi my names’ Desiree and I want to know is speed talent/skill,
meaning you have to be born with it, or is it an achievable thing. What I’m
really trying to say is “Can speed be manmade?” This is what I want to find
out. Is it possible to take a person with below average speed and make them
faster in just 10 days? Using training,
the right nutrition and advice can I turn someone and hopefully turn them it
this.
That exactly what I’m going to try to do! Running is a
big part in my life. I have been doing it since I was young so why not take the
thing I love and may I add something I’m really good at and do a project on it!
So the first step in achieving my dream/project is to
plan everything out!
Second to make a training schedule
Third, to find a good test to get good results
Fourth, find an exciting way to present all of this
(point at everything). And last but certainly not least, to find a willing
victim
Perfect.
Now that we got the main things I need down let me
explain more about my project. I’m going to take Yassi
my participate, who will start off by doing a 100
meters
At her fastest. I will record her time and then during
the next 10 days train her in cardio, flexibility and muscular strength in an
attempt to make her faster. At the end of the 10 days we will redo the
beginning 100 meter test and hopefully she will be faster. Got it? So now let
official kick off my project with the beginning test....... and all that
happened that day.
And her timing was.......
17.7! Now that we had the building block we knew that
we had some serious work ahead of us. Serious work. An Olympic runner runs the
100 meter in about 10 second and I run a 100 meter in about 13 seconds. I have
been doing track for a long time and it is always my goal to improve. But not
just to get faster but to be the best. As I’m sure many of you can understand.
I wanted to use this passion and convert into my project. Live my dreams
through Yassi per say.
The next day we started training. The three focus
areas she worked on were here cardio
Flexibility
And resistance
With stuff such as jogging, sprints, strides, biking,
jump rope, weighted step up, lungs, clings, superburpies, roll ups, planks,
pikes and sit ups.
She better have improved her speed after all of that.
This is what happened
Look exhausting huh? And that wasn’t even half of the
footage! Yassi was training at least an hour day for 10 days. This is a lot for
a beginner and I praise her for all her effort. Even though we fought and I was
a pretty harsh trainer. I’ve never been on the other side where I have to give
orders so things didn’t always go well. But one more thing that made this whole
project worth wild was Yassi doing super burpies.
It’s pretty amazing I know. But now back to the
project. The 10 days of training was finally over and the day of the Final
test. I was nervous but no one was more nervous than Yassi. We were both
excited but scared to learn if all our hard work paid off. The moment of truth
was finally here.
The whole project had finally come to an end but we
still had one big thing to find out! Do you think she improved?
HER TIMING
WAS.........
17.1! And i know that might not look like much of a
difference to you! Just a .6 difference! Let me tell you that .6 difference is
a big thing. Point 6 can separate first from eight place at the Olympics. It
toke me 1 whole year of year round training to drop my timing point 2. Don’t
think that .6 is small anymore huh? This means that I succeed in my project. I
made someone faster. This could have been because of the person and many other
factors but I did it! Now that is project was finally over I could breathe a
sigh of relief but none more than Ms. Yassi Kazemi. This project was about her
and her improvement so who better to talk about the experience than the project
herself.
So now that you got a glimpse from Yassi’s side,
here’s mine. When i first started this project I never would have guessed all
the problems and obstacle I would have to overcome. I had to deal with physical
restraints, emotional problems, technical difficulties, personal schedules and
many other things. But the one thing I would have never have guessed is all I
learnt from this experience. Small things like how to work movie maker and
making up training workout to becoming a better leader and never to give up, no
matter what. I know how cliché that might sound but there were many times when
both me and Yassi wanted to quit because we felt it wasn’t really worth it and
there wouldn’t be much of an improvement. Boy was I wrong. This project was
more than just a project, it was a wakeup call. If I can help someone improve,
shouldn’t it be easier to help myself improve.
So I asked myself the question when I started my
project, Can I make someone faster in 10 days? I found out that Yes, I
can.
